Singing tuition for September 2009.

In addition to our current music provision we are pleased to be able to offer our pupils the opportunity to have specialist singing tuition starting in September. Vicki Barnes-Moffat, the excellent singing tutor who organised and prepared our pupils for the recent stunning concert at the Cathedral, has offered to run sessions at our school as part of the Gloucestershire music service support. The options and costing per term will be as follows

  • 30 minutes individual tuition – £35.00
  • 30 minutes joint tuition (2 pupils) – £17.50
  • 15 minutes individual tuition – £17.50

If you would be interested in your child / children taking part please complete the attached slip and return to school by WEDNESDAY this week.

Swine Flu – latest information for schools.

Local press coverage has reported that there have been suspected cases of the virus at schools in the locality. As yet there have been no reported cases at our school. However, the following is the latest guidance given to schools from the Local authority:

Swine Flu – School update

Schools across the county will not close if pupils are confirmed to have swine flu.

In line with Government guidance, schools closures are not necessary as the virus is no longer contained and is already widespread within the county. Gloucestershire County Council is keen to reinforce this message following concerns from parents. Gloucestershire County Council, working with NHS Gloucestershire, has issued guidance.

Guidance includes:

  • If you have flu-like symptoms, stay at home and seek medical advice (via the online flu checker at www.nhs.uk <http://www.nhs.uk> or calling the National Flu Information Line on 0800 151 3513 or contacting NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or phoning your local GP).
  • Inform the school in the normal way that your child is staying at home with flu-like symptoms.
  • Staff or children without symptoms should be in school – even if they have had contact with a confirmed case.
  • National guidance is that there is no longer a need to close a school when a child is confirmed with swine flu.

Foundation Stage report format.

In accordance with best practice guidelines from the Local Authority our school has adopted the use of “e-profile” computer software to record and track the progress of children in reception. This has been a valuable tool for the school. The “e-profile” generates an end of year report which those of you have a pupil in reception have received this year. Many schools in the county are using this tool to report to parents and have found it useful.

Thank you for your feedback. It will help inform our evaluations of this format and future reporting.

End of year service and picnic.

Our end of year service / concert takes place this Thursday at 2pm in the church. Weather permitting we plan to follow the service with a family “picnic” on the village green. Your support in providing a plate of cakes, biscuits or sandwiches would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to contribute, please send your food to the staffroom on Thursday morning.

Could I take this opportunity to thank you all for your help and support. On behalf of all the staff I hope you and your families have a very happy and safe summer. We look forward to the start of the new academic year on Thursday 3rd September.

With all best regards

Lisa Austin-Harrison
Headteacher.
