Dear Parents

We are writing to provide more information about some exciting educational events taking place in the coming weeks.

Poetry event at Oakridge School – Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October.
We are delighted to inform you of our plans for a special poetry event in school at the end of this term.

Although still in the final stages of planning we can confirm the following. A performance poet has been booked and will come in to work alongside all our pupils on the morning of Monday 19th October. A workshop for Key Stage 2 will take place with the support of Alison Miles our Editor in Residence on that day. During the afternoon of the same day we would like to welcome parents and governors to come in to school if they would like to read / act out their favourite poem.

On Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm we would like each pupil to invite a member of their family to come in to school to share the completed poetry work, have a tour around school and a cup of tea.

Celebrating National Schools Film Week.

In response to a suggestion from one of our parents we successfully applied for and received free cinema tickets for all our pupils to celebrate this national event. We plan to take all our pupils to see Ice Age 3 on the “big screen” in Stroud on the morning of Wednesday 21st October. A coach has been booked for a return journey which will bring us back to school for lunch at normal time. The Achievement Worship in church will still take place at 2.30pm. On this occasion we request a voluntary contribution of £2.20 per child to cover the cost of the coach.

Oakridge Parochial School – new improved website.

At the meeting for parents in the Summer term the school website was discussed. Governors and parents have been working hard and have made great improvements. They are now at the stage to add photographs and pupils work before the official launch of the new site at parents evening next term. We seek your permission to be able to use your child’s work and / or photographs.

Please could you complete and return the attached form giving permission and responses needed for the above.

School Development Plan Priorities for Terms 1 and 2.

Also attached to this letter is the information about the School Development Plan areas of priority for the first two terms. The document includes suggestions of how we can all work together to continue to support further improvement.

If you have questions relating any of the above please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Yours sincerely
Lisa Austin-Harrison
Headteacher
