Dear Parents and Carers

We are very excited in being able to share with you a new development to our existing PSHE programme delivered to our Key Stage 2 children!

As professionals working with children we know how important it is to not only deliver the three A’s, but to also help our children to develop better communication skills, be independent, well rounded citizens of the future who will cope in the wider society and ever changing world.  We have been very fortunate to have secured help from practitioners who will team teach with us to deliver PSHE workshops, helping us and our children to achieve a better understanding of themselves and each other.  Also we hope the workshops will equip them with tools to empower themselves; to create good habits and behaviours, enabling them to be the best that they can be.

These workshops will take place as one or more per term.  These will be fun, interactive and involve learning something the children can practise at home.  With your support you can be a part of their learning by witnessing tasks that they may have to practise and help them complete these tasks away from the school environment.

The workshops will cover:

  1. Managing emotions
  2. What does it mean to be responsible?
  3. Internal dialogue
  4. Values and beliefs
  5. Relationships and listening
  6. Comfort zones
  7. Goal setting and achievement

A theme running throughout these workshops will be communication skills.

‘What skills are the best predictors of academic and life success?… A growing number of educators recognize that students who receive an exclusively academic education may be ill equipped for future challenges both as individuals and members of society… it’s just  not enough to feed only the mind.’ Robin Stern Ph.D.

Research has shown that helping children to develop emotional intelligence (EQ) is as important as being taught an academic curriculum.

These are very exciting times for our children and we would hope you will be very supportive in helping your child to achieve the tasks set from the workshops and in our goal to help our children to become better communicators and model citizens of the future.  Your child will have their own folder and we would expect this to travel from home to school for use at all times.

Yours sincerely

Issy Warren

Your strange world is full of acronyms – I’m sure I should know but what is PSHE?
