Dear Parents and Carers

It is with great pleasure that we are writing this letter to share with you the outcome of the SIAS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools) inspection which took place on the 18th January 2012. The inspector judged our school to be a good school which has made good progress since the previous inspection in September 2009 and under a tougher inspection criteria for SIAS.

All church schools in England are required to undertake an inspection following their visit from Ofsted. During the day the inspector judges the school’s distinctive Christian character, the impact of collective worship, the impact of religious education and the leadership and management of the school as a church school. All areas were assessed as being good.

Again our pupils were praised for their progress and attitudes to learning and behaviour. All staff and Governors are pleased with the identified strengths of the school which include the way in which children discuss matters of faith, the way in which the local environment is used and the commitment of the school’s leaders in developing the Christian ethos.

Over the coming months we will address the areas identified for development which include the implementation of six identified core Christian values of friendship, truthfulness, responsibility, perseverance, respect and compassion.

The latest SIAS report will be available to view shortly from The Church of England website http://www.churchofengland.org/education, or is available from the school office either by e-mail or as a hard copy. Please contact Carolyn.

We would again like to thank all parents and carers for their continuing support of our school.

Yours sincerely

Lisa Austin-Harrison

Don’t forget that this Friday night is Race Night at Oakridge Village Hall! It promises to be a really fun evening and a great way to bring the community together to raise some extra funds for the school. It’s open to anyone, so friends and family can come along too – don’t forget to invite them! In case you need any more persuading, here is some extra information to entice you: Race Night participants stake money on the outcome of eight pre-recorded or virtual races. Upon entry, everyone will get a programme listing the names of the eight runners and riders in each race. When the compere announces that the tote is open, you go ahead and place your bets! You’re free to bet on as many runners in each race as you wish and may buy as many tickets as you like for each runner. The races are shown on a state-of-the-art large screen which everyone will be able to see. Once each race starts there is an exciting commentary and positions display on screen – nail-biting fun! There are cash prizes for race winners and also a bottle of champagne up for grabs if you have named a horse and it wins. The licensed bar is available all night and doors open at 7.30pm (first race at 8pm). Tickets are only £1 each and can be purchased from the school and Kim’s shop. If you can, it would be great if you could buy these tickets in advance as it will help us plan the night as well as we can for you all.

We look forward to seeing you there!

On Tuesday 24th January as part of their studies of ‘dinosaurs’ the KS1 and Foundation Stage children will be visiting The Oxford University Museum of Natural History.

The coach will leave school at 9.15 am and return by 3.15 pm. They will need to take a packed lunch in a small back pack, wear suitable footwear and take a raincoat although everything is undercover.

There is no charge for entry to the museum. The cost of the coach will be £235.00 (£18.07 per pupil) so on this occasion we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £10.00 per pupil towards this cost and The Oakridge Parochial School Charitable Trust will fund the remainder.

The second race of the Bisley small schools district x country series is taking place as you probably know on Monday next week.

The evening will run as it did before- children will need to get changed at school in to their school pe kit with a pair of trainers, and will need to be collected by parents and brought to the recreation ground as soon as possible. They will then have an opportunity to warm up before the races get underway.

The races will start as soon as all schools have arrived, but by 4pm at the latest. The order of races will be:

Year 3/4 girls

Year 3/4 boys

Year 5/6 girls

Year 5/6 boys

We may run girls and boys together should numbers be small, or weather be really bad!

There will be refreshments for the children following the races, after which medals and the cup will be presented to the children.

I would be very grateful if there are any adults prepared to help out on the night just orgainising refreshments / standing on a corner of the field in a high vis !? Let me know!

Many thanks for your continued support!

School cross country club will kick off again next Monday 9th January after school until 4.15pm at the recreation ground in Bisley, and is open to all children from year 3 and above who are enthusiastic athletes!

NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME!

The club will run every Monday night throughout the term, except where there are races on as detailed below. Children get changed straight after school in their classrooms, and then we walk as a group up to the recreation ground, where we then have a session that includes a warm up, some games, a running session of some sort, followed by a biscuit to round off! Children need to be collected from the recreation ground by 4.15pm.

There are a few cross country races going on this term which will be nice opportunities for the children to compete if they wish to, at various levels against a range of local primary schools. These are as follows:

MONDAY 16th JAN BISLEY DISTRICT SMALL PRIMARY

SCHOOLS LEAGUE, race 2 of series

                                        BISLEY RECREATION GROUND

TUESDAY 31st JAN BISLEY DISTRICT SMALL PRIMARY

SCHOOLS LEAGUE, race 3 of series

                                       BISLEY RECREATION GROUND

MONDAY 6th FEB Stroud East district primary schools race

                                       STRATFORD COURT 3.45pm

TUESDAY 13th MARCH Stroud district race

                                           Years 3 and 4

                                        STRATFORD LEISURE CENTRE 4pm

WEDNESDAY 14th MARCH Stroud district race

                                               Years 5 and 6

                                        STRATFORD LEISURE CENTRE 4pm

If your child would like to take part in the cross country club, please complete the permission slip (available from Carolyn) outlining your contact details in the event of any medical emergency.

Whilst we have no formal rota for parent help with the running the club, any extra legs to help get the children safely up to the ground after school are always appreciated, as is the odd packet of biscuits thrown in to the kit bag!

Hoping for a good strong group of runners from Bisley and Oakridge…..!?

With thanks for your continued support,

Kate Bankes
