On Tuesday 19th October as part of their studies of ‘toys’ the KS1 pupils will be visiting The Museum in the Park. The coach will leave school at approximately 10.00 am and return by 3.15pm.

Whilst at the museum we will take part in several educational workshops which The Oakridge Parochial School Charitable Trust will be paying for. On this occasion we would therefore like to ask for a voluntary contribution of £4.50 per pupil to cover the cost of the coach to and from Stroud.

I would be grateful if you could complete the parent’s permission form (available from Carolyn) and return to the office together with your voluntary contribution no later than Friday 15th October.

Thank you. Jo Hayes, KS1 Teacher

        Thursday 2 December 2010

The children in the German Club have expressed an interest in visiting the German Christmas market which is held annually in the centre of Birmingham. They would be able to see typical German stalls run by stallholders from Frankfurt and have the chance to try out some of their German language.

The market displays a colourful variety of beautifully made traditional crafts – toys, puppets and decorations as well as jewellery, candles, German food and confectionery and lots of unusual gifts. A pre-visit to assess any risk has been made and I am satisfied that the pedestrianized area is safe for the children. However, if the trip is to be successful, we need a number of parents to help supervise – a ratio of 1 adult to 2 children would be ideal.

We would also take the opportunity to visit the excellent Museum and Art Gallery adjacent to the market with its exhibition of Egyptian artefacts, Victorian life and Pre-Raphaelite paintings. The lunch room in the museum is booked for 12.30 – 1.00 for those who wish to eat their sandwiches there.

The coach would leave school at 9.00 am and return to school by 3.15 pm. As well as a packed lunch, the children would need a small amount of pocket money, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes.

In order to keep transport costs down to £12.00 per head, we would need to fill spare seats on the coach with adult helpers paying the same fare. If any parent would like to join in the visit, please inform Carolyn in the school office.
