Dear Parents and Carers

It is with great pleasure that we are writing this letter to share with you the outcome of the SIAS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools) inspection which took place on the 18th January 2012. The inspector judged our school to be a good school which has made good progress since the previous inspection in September 2009 and under a tougher inspection criteria for SIAS.

All church schools in England are required to undertake an inspection following their visit from Ofsted. During the day the inspector judges the school’s distinctive Christian character, the impact of collective worship, the impact of religious education and the leadership and management of the school as a church school. All areas were assessed as being good.

Again our pupils were praised for their progress and attitudes to learning and behaviour. All staff and Governors are pleased with the identified strengths of the school which include the way in which children discuss matters of faith, the way in which the local environment is used and the commitment of the school’s leaders in developing the Christian ethos.

Over the coming months we will address the areas identified for development which include the implementation of six identified core Christian values of friendship, truthfulness, responsibility, perseverance, respect and compassion.

The latest SIAS report will be available to view shortly from The Church of England website http://www.churchofengland.org/education, or is available from the school office either by e-mail or as a hard copy. Please contact Carolyn.

We would again like to thank all parents and carers for their continuing support of our school.

Yours sincerely

Lisa Austin-Harrison

Executive Headteacher

Don’t forget that this Friday night is Race Night at Oakridge Village Hall! It promises to be a really fun evening and a great way to bring the community together to raise some extra funds for the school. It’s open to anyone, so friends and family can come along too – don’t forget to invite them! In case you need any more persuading, here is some extra information to entice you: Race Night participants stake money on the outcome of eight pre-recorded or virtual races. Upon entry, everyone will get a programme listing the names of the eight runners and riders in each race. When the compere announces that the tote is open, you go ahead and place your bets! You’re free to bet on as many runners in each race as you wish and may buy as many tickets as you like for each runner. The races are shown on a state-of-the-art large screen which everyone will be able to see. Once each race starts there is an exciting commentary and positions display on screen – nail-biting fun! There are cash prizes for race winners and also a bottle of champagne up for grabs if you have named a horse and it wins. The licensed bar is available all night and doors open at 7.30pm (first race at 8pm). Tickets are only £1 each and can be purchased from the school and Kim’s shop. If you can, it would be great if you could buy these tickets in advance as it will help us plan the night as well as we can for you all.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Families in Oakridge will have the opportunity to take part in an adapted version of the Posada this Advent. Thanks to Noeleen Charlesworth and the ladies of Oakridge we have our very own knitted nativity set to use for the Posada this year 11th to 23rd December. Each day a family will be able to ‘host’ the nativity and use it to enact the story and discuss the true meaning of Christmas. This year we have a small flock of sheep. Each family may keep 1 sheep for the children to bring to the Crib service on Dec. 24th at 4.30pm and place in the crib. We have also provided a candle for the parents to light while discussing the Christmas story with the children and, if possible, perhaps the children could write their own prayers which will be laid upon the altar at the service.

There will be a timetable in the school reception for you to sign up to if you would like to take part.

Dear Parents & Carers

It is with great pleasure that we are writing this letter to update you on the excellent outcome of the latest Ofsted inspection that took place at the school on the 17th and 18th November 2011.

The inspector has judged our school to be a Good school with Outstanding features and having a good capacity for sustained improvement.

The report states that the school has made significant improvement in recent years with a collective drive amongst staff and Governors for continual refinement of practices and the raising of achievement. Pupils are equally praised by the inspector, not only for their attainment and quality of work, but also for their behaviour which we are proud to say was judged as outstanding. In fact, not only behaviour, but safeguarding, care guidance and support, governance and leadership and management were all judged to be outstanding. A deserved result for all involved.

All staff and governors are very pleased with the overall outcome which is felt to be an accurate and true reflection of the progress and achievements since our last inspection in June 2009. All areas of evaluation are now judged to be at least good.

Over the coming months we will continue to rigorously address those areas identified for further improvement and look forward to working in partnership with parents and the wider community to achieve the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.

Please find attached to this letter a copy of this latest Ofsted inspection report which has been published today and includes a letter for pupils from the lead inspector David Carrington.

We plan to invite the local media to report on our excellent progress since the last Ofsted report and would like to invite any parents or carers who would like to contribute with their own comments, in support of the positive achievements of the school, to email or write to Carolyn at the school office by Friday 9th December. Comments can remain anonymous should you wish.

We would like to thank all parents and carers who have supported the school over the last two years or so and for believing in our vision of improving our school. I am sure you will join us in welcoming this excellent news and look forward to the continued growth of Oakridge Parochial School.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Yours sincerely
