Dear Parents

We have organised and funded two days for the children to enjoy outdoor learning locally. The dates will be Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th May, in order not to incur coach costs, which would have to be passed onto the parents, we would very much appreciate it if the children could be dropped off at a drop-off point near Copsegrove at 9.15am and picked up at the drop-off point at 2.45pm. A map is available from the school office.

We have organised a full two days’ worth of activities. In order for your child to enjoy this activity in all weathers it will be advisable to provide your child with the following.

Backpack that they can carry themselves

Waterproof coat

Waterproof leggings (optional and dependent on weather)

Old outdoor clothing suitable for getting messy in

Gardening gloves for den building (optional)

Sturdy footwear for outdoor ie. welly boots with thick socks or walking boots

Lunch and a good sized drink to sustain your child for the day

Sun cream that your child can apply to themselves

We will be outside for the two days. If it is wet there is limited shelter to protect us from the rain, so we can only stress the importance of the children being suitably dressed and equipped. We will also be exposed to insects and pollen etc, so it would be useful to know whether we could administer Anthisam cream or Waspeze to your child if they get stung. There is a slip to fill in and give consent to this. Also we would like to draw your attention to the possibility of children who are prone to allergies or hay fever to carry any necessary medication should they require it to alleviate any symptoms should they arise during the day.

Please fill in the necessary paperwork (available from Carolyn) to help us and your children have a fun two days with as little problem as possible.

Yours Sincerely

Lara Burtwell

Dear Parents

Please see the message below regarding the Olympic Torch Relay coming through Stroud.

Olympic Torch Relay 23 May 2012

On Wednesday 23 May the Olympic Torch will enter Stroud at around 4.15pm and be carried through the town centre to Beeches Green, it will then make its journey towards Painswick to arrive at 5pm. Please visit www.stroud.gov.uk/london2012 for more.

The route: Detailed information (including downloadable maps) of the Olympic Torch Relay route through Stroud & Painswick can be found here: http://bit.ly/Jbn5Hm

Celebrating: Information on events and celebrations and how to get involved, including a Starter Pack, can be found here: http://bit.ly/KJaEA0

Road Closures: The plan is to close the roads at any time from 2pm up to 15 minutes before the Torch passes through. The timing of the closure will be the decision of the Police based on crowds and other considerations on the day. The intention being to minimise disruption. Advice is to plan for disruption from 2pm. Detailed maps can be found here: http://bit.ly/Jbn5Hm

Very kind regards

Kevin Ward and Jane Bullows

Stroud District Council

Cultural Services

The school plans to keep normal collection timings, if you feel that road closures may impact on your ability to collect your child/children at 3.15pm please do not hesitate to arrange an earlier pick up time.

As the torch will be passing through Cirencester at 3.45pm on 23rd May and roads near to the leisure centre will be closed two hours beforehand there will be no swimming and PE that day.

Hopefully the worst of the wet weather is over with –and a long hot summer is in store! So now is the perfect time for Oakridge pupils to grab their bike helmets, get on their bikes and cycle to school.

Undertaking regular physical activity stands children in really good stead for keeping fit and healthy for life. There are many benefits to cycling to school including reducing traffic on the village roads/around the school and increasing health and fitness –but most of all it’s FUN! During the summer term, Oakridge school will be running a number of initiatives to promote cycling including: classroom activities, ‘Bikeability’ training for years 5/6, and cycling skills training for year 4. We’re also making the railings to the side of the school a ‘bicycle-only’ zone between school hours so pupils have a dedicated and safe area to store their bikes. We will continue to encourage cycling (and walking) as a healthy year-round way to get to our school. Although it may mean leaving home a little earlier in the mornings and it won’t always be possible when it’s really cold and wet, it would be fantastic for parents and pupils to encourage each other to walk and cycle to school whenever possible.

Thank you for your support!

Maths information evening.

We are planning to hold an information evening for parents next term on Monday 25th June – 6.30pm.
