On Monday 28th November some of our pupils travelled to Birmingham to visit The German Christmas Market. They were able to see typical German stalls run by stallholders from Frankfurt and had the chance to try out some of their German language. The market had a colourful variety of beautifully made traditional crafts – toys, puppets and decorations as well as jewellery, candles, German food and confectionery and lots of unusual gifts.
On Monday 5th December the Oakridge School Association kindly provided lunch for pupils, staff and governors at The Village Hall. Everyone enjoyed a superb Christmas lunch and Father Christmas even managed to spare a few minutes to visit us. Thank you to all for the lovely lunch and for all their hard work preparing it and making the hall look so festive.
For Golden Time on Friday 9th December the pupils in Class 2 have requested that, having read the book in class, they would like to watch the DVD called How to Train My Dragon. The DVD is a PG certificate. There will also be other activities the children can do during Golden Time should they not wish to watch the film. If you would prefer your child/children not to watch the DVD please let me know.
Thank you
Miss Burtwell
Families in Oakridge will have the opportunity to take part in an adapted version of the Posada this Advent. Thanks to Noeleen Charlesworth and the ladies of Oakridge we have our very own knitted nativity set to use for the Posada this year 11th to 23rd December. Each day a family will be able to ‘host’ the nativity and use it to enact the story and discuss the true meaning of Christmas. This year we have a small flock of sheep. Each family may keep 1 sheep for the children to bring to the Crib service on Dec. 24th at 4.30pm and place in the crib. We have also provided a candle for the parents to light while discussing the Christmas story with the children and, if possible, perhaps the children could write their own prayers which will be laid upon the altar at the service.
There will be a timetable in the school reception for you to sign up to if you would like to take part.
Dear Parents & Carers
