World Book Day – Thurs 1st March
The pupils have discussed the ways in which they would like to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 1st March.
The county library van will be visiting school on Wednesday 29th February when the children will be able to select a new range of books for their classes.
The pupils would like to have the opportunity to spend the day in school dressed as their favourite book character and would like parents to be involved by coming into school to read. If you are available and would like to read a children’s story, or part of a story to Class 1 or 2 contact Carolyn in the office to arrange a time. This year’s May Revels will be held on Saturday 12 May on the village green. The theme the pupils have chosen for this year is ‘Country and Western’ – yee haw!
This is the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year, so we really need as many parents as possible to help out with the organisation, set up on the day, running the stalls, etc. If you are able to commit a little time in the run up to, or during, the event, please email: o...@oakridge.gloucs.sch.uk
In addition, the next OSA meeting is on Thursday 1 March at 7.30pm. If any parents (not just OSA members) would like to come along to help with the planning and organisation of the Revels, please do join us – we’d love to see you!

Dear Parents and Carers
It is with great pleasure that we are writing this letter to share with you the outcome of the SIAS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools) inspection which took place on the 18th January 2012. The inspector judged our school to be a good school which has made good progress since the previous inspection in September 2009 and under a tougher inspection criteria for SIAS. Monday 6th February – 3.45pm start, races for all years 3-4, and 5-6
At STRATFORD COURT (opposite Stratford Leisure Centre).
Children can be collected from school at 3.00pm to allow sufficient time to get to Stratford Park ready for the 3.45pm start.
Don’t forget that this Friday night is Race Night at Oakridge Village Hall! It promises to be a really fun evening and a great way to bring the community together to raise some extra funds for the school. It’s open to anyone, so friends and family can come along too – don’t forget to invite them! In case you need any more persuading, here is some extra information to entice you: Race Night participants stake money on the outcome of eight pre-recorded or virtual races. Upon entry, everyone will get a programme listing the names of the eight runners and riders in each race. When the compere announces that the tote is open, you go ahead and place your bets! You’re free to bet on as many runners in each race as you wish and may buy as many tickets as you like for each runner. The races are shown on a state-of-the-art large screen which everyone will be able to see. Once each race starts there is an exciting commentary and positions display on screen – nail-biting fun! There are cash prizes for race winners and also a bottle of champagne up for grabs if you have named a horse and it wins. The licensed bar is available all night and doors open at 7.30pm (first race at 8pm). Tickets are only £1 each and can be purchased from the school and Kim’s shop. If you can, it would be great if you could buy these tickets in advance as it will help us plan the night as well as we can for you all.
We look forward to seeing you there!
