Vision & Values
“The staff and parents all work so hard to make this wonderful school a really special place for our children to thrive.”
Vision Strapline & Vision Statement
‘Through our roots we flourish’
Our vision strapline, ‘Through our roots we flourish’ stems from our theologically rooted vision statement from Jeremiah 17:8.
'They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.'
Jeremiah 17:8
The Context of our Vision
Developed and introduced in Autumn 2024, ‘Through our roots we flourish’ represents the way we aim to develop our pupils, in all areas of their school lives. The nourishment of the ‘roots’ can be transferred across the curriculum, in which all pupils’ learning and development is formed from the ‘roots’, and then builds, grows and ‘flourishes’ from there. They are the foundations on which we build. This can be the case whether learning an academic subject, developing key life skills, through extra-curricular interests, or by living through our Christian values, in that all learning and development stems and grows from the ‘roots’, enabling all of the community to ‘flourish’.
‘Through our roots we flourish’ represents Jeremiah’s word, in that those who follow God’s word will flourish through their roots, just like a tree will flourish from the nourishment through its roots from the stream.
To live out our vision, and to support our understanding of the word of Jeremiah, the school community visited the local Strawberry Banks Nature Reserve, in which we saw for ourselves the trees sending our their roots through the stream, enabling them to flourish in nature as we aim to in school.
Values
Friendship, Generosity, Perseverance
Our Core Values of Friendship, Generosity and Perseverance are inherent to the way in which we want our pupils to live by at Oakridge Parochial School, through each and every aspect of our daily school life. Whilst our Core Values guide us through the school year, we teach and embrace a wider range of Christian Values to sit alongside them, namely;
Compassion, Courage, Forgiveness, Justice, Respect, Service, Thankfulness, Trust and Truthfulness.
Each term we have a distinct focus on one of our Core Values. These values are discussed and reflected on in our learning and across school life, including through our collective worship. Regardless of one’s beliefs, these values are integral to leading a positive and rewarding life, helping our pupils to flourish as they understand the world around them.
